Whats the point of Art School?

They let me in the Royal Academy!
The magazine that is..... a slight diversion in style towards a more cartoony approach for this.

Whats the point of art school? Look closely and you'll see sheep pickling, just sitting, making something out of found body hair, and interpreting the naked body in paint. Ah, golden years.
Thanks to Eleanor Mills, and Sarah Greenberg.

still sleepers

Sorry for the lack of blog posts of late - been working on some exciting new things which will be revealed over the next few weeks. In the meantime I went outside and got on a train and watched the sunrise over the gentle hillocks of Kent whilst speeding backwards to London.

There are still sleeping people on the train. Heres 4 pages of muttering, swaying dreamers.

Last Slice

After 8 years of drawing Mr Hodges' adventures in and around south London, Time Out becomes free and the last Slice of Life is sliced and axed.
Theres been good times, bad times, drunken brawls, jazz sex, sperm fairys, hoodies, murder hounds, pavements strewn with chicken bones, angry red dog's balls, happy pink squirrel's balls, Boris Johnson in speedos, booze, dog poo, childbirth, tube bombs, art galleries, foxes, traffic jams, lunatics, ancient stone penises, spitting, poledancers, parrots, nazi art students, Darth Vader police vans, good deeds and bad deeds, Croydon riots and everything.
A big thanks to Hidge for 8 years of fabulous award winning writing - Its been brill and always exciting!
And of course another big thanks to Richard, Sim, Ellen, Anamaria, and everyone at Time Out for giving me the opportunity, putting up with my mad layout ideas and pestering.
Raise a glass of a pint of wine!
Heres to Slice of Life, cheers!

Whitstable Celebrity Spotter!

It can't be them, can it?
A quick sneak peek at the design for my upcoming postcard range for the summer in super spiffing sunny Whitstable. This is an A1 sized print for the current A1 Exhibition at The Horsebridge.
Phenomenal amounts of celebs come to play and live in the town, but can you spot them out and about, cap down and shades on?
Cards coming real soon!

Smeared in Chum!

And they're off! The Alternative Olympics event where hurdlers have their bums smeared in Pedigree Chum and are chased by Staffys from Battersea Dogs Home.
A close up of the tiny background from this week's Slice of Life in Time Out.
BUY IT and read/see the whole thing!

MDCAGM2012

Ah few sketches from the dizzy heights of saturday's Millionaire Designer's Club outing in Soho... beginning with a train journey across the Kent marshes, through Chatham and Rochester. Spying allsorts of curious barbed wire covered oast houses, lines in the sky, and ponies running backwards. Much too fast to capture by pencil or camera. I settled on sketching a mute lady reading the newspaper, and a rusty submarine in the bank of the Medway.

...later on a rather photographic rendering of fellow Millionaire Designers was spoilt by my drunk pencil:

A super afternoon with the finest of friends.

More soon please chaps!

Challenged by the mighty Wellington Drawe in an Avengers frenzy, how could I refuse? I don't think I've drawn him since I was about 8.

Strontium Tom

A belated birthday present for my good buddy Tom in a 2000AD Strontium Dog style, complete with old-skool letratone shading effects and "time-bomb" to turn back the effects of aging. Drawn digitally using Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet. Zarjaz!

postVIEW - the sea and the sky

This is my entry for PostVIEW, an open exhibition of views on postcards... image or words at the Horsebridge Art Centre, in Whitstable. All drawn digitally on my Wacom Bamboo tablet, printed, cut out, and assembled with cotton and glue. And, yes it does fold flat to be posted:

Look closely under the surface and you can see a frill eel, a lantern fish, a shoal of herring, a ray, a basking shark, an eel, and a dragon fish!

PostVIEW on until the end of June, so if you're in Whitstable do pop along - its a great show! Also contains work by Duncan Wilson, Andy Potts, and Graeme Swinton, and many more.
